Economic impact of Mardi Gras season in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)- Mardi Gras season brings a large economic impact to Baton Rouge.

“Shreveport Mardi Gras generated around $22 million for the city, Baton Rouge could be a little,” said LSU economic professor Dek Terrell.

While Mardi Gras season promotes a lot of revenue, the celebration is not the same as usual. Many business owners and commercial businesses in Baton Rouge are looking for employees.

According to the President and CEO of Visit Baton Rouge, he says “it’s unfortunate what’s happened to our labor force.” However, he said he’s seen employment in the local service industry increase in the last few months.
