New federal fuel economy standards to be unveiled Friday

The U.S. Department of Transportation confirmed to Reuters that Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Deputy Administrator Steven Cliff will make a “major announcement” about fuel economy standards Friday. The announcement will come on the heels of the Biden administration’s newly filed federal budget proposal that includes billions toward transportation safety and equity.
